It's been great meeting and hanging out a little with Kim Sunée, author of the highly acclaimed memoir Trail of Crumbs. She was kind enough to post an excerpt of my poem, "Korean Adoptee Returns to Seoul" and a picture of us in Itaewon, which you can check out here.
The time here has continued to amaze me, for so many reasons, most of which I am unable or hesitant to unpack here at this moment, but suffice it to say I am having a great time in Seoul, eating amazing food (today, soon dae guk at a market restaurant run by the same woman for 35 years), soaking up some of the massive city's historical treasures, meeting up with friends, and at long last, visiting GOA'L and KoRoot. I'm taking many notes toward my second book.
I have been invited to speak at a university next week, and on Saturday, May 24 at 7pm I will be reading from my book at KoRoot! If you're in the area, I hope to see you.

I am thrilled to have a new poem, "My California," forthcoming in ZYZZYVA. Thank you to Howard Junker for the invitation to submit and for taking one of my poems. I've long admired this magazine. I'll let you know when it's out.

I\'m sorry because this comment is not directly toward your post. I am hoping, however, that you will take the time to read this, and make a future post based on the following information.
I am currently interning at the Global Overseas Adoptees\' Link (GOA\'L), located in Seoul, South Korea. I am writing to you with intentions of both providing you with information on, as well as asking for your assistance with our current campaign.
As you may already know, GOA\'L has been supporting overseas adoptees born in Korea since 1998. We are now lobbying for overseas adoptees\' right to hold a dual citizenship.
At the bottom, I will include a link leading toward documents about our campaign. There is an information package which contains the specific details about our campaign. Within, issues such as military service and tax responsibilities are outlined. The second document is the petition form. We are hoping to obtain 50,000 signatures by December 2008. To reach this goal, the Korean overseas adopted community must come together. We cannot do this without your help.
We would greatly appreciate your support in this campaign.
