Birthday

Tomorrow I turn thirty-something.

Starting this year, I am also commemorating another birthday of sorts (it's an adoptee thing) on December 16, but my driver's license says November 16, and so I shall continue to celebrate it with joy, love, and the desire for the winning lottery numbers. Oh. And world peace. And a shopping spree in a good independent bookstore.

* Like many others, I am disturbed by the apparent censoring of adult adoptees' comments at the New York Times blog discussion that ensued over an adoptive parent's troubling article. There are many good discussions occurring, and here are just a few good entry points into the discussion about international and transracial adoption, from these courageous and intelligent voices: Harlow's Monkey, Racialicious, Sun Yung Shin, Twice the Rice, and Ethnically Incorrect Daughter.
