Amy Uyematsu at Fresno City College, March 22 at 7:00 p.m.

Amy Uyematsu
Wednesday, March 22 at 7:oo p.m.
Fresno City College
College Activities Center

Acclaimed poet Amy Uyematsu will read from and sign copies of her amazing new book, Stone Bow Prayer (Copper Canyon, 2005). Her other books include the award-winning 30 Miles from J-Town and Nights of Fire, Nights of Rain. Read about her awesome new book here. Read my post (from August 2005) on her book here. I'm especially proud to read with her because she has been one of my biggest influences.

Also reading that night will be yours truly, Lee Herrick, along with outstanding younger poets Julie Kim Garcia and Burlee Vang. I will be reading a new poem, "Salvation," and hopefully something I'll cook up for this special occasion...

Bring a friend or two, come early, and enjoy!

This event is free and proudly sponsored by the Asian American Studies and Women's Studies departments at Fresno City College. For more information, call 559-442-4600, ext. 8105 or e-mail lee.herrick@fresnocitycollege.edu

Thanks Lee,
for the info. I will attend to support all of you outstanding writers. It's good to see that Burlee is a part of it.

Wish Bako was closer to Fresno. :( Went to college with Amy's son, he got me an autographed copy of "30 Miles from J-Town."

you should make the drive up! small world about chris (whom i've never met but have heard about through amy)...as you may know, he just got married last fall.

her new book is really, really good. if you can't make it to fresno, check our her book. it's well worth the money.

Really? Didn't know about Chris, that's nice. Maybe we'll see him at reunion in May. We joke about how our daughter is gonna rebel against her radical progressive parents by turning Republican like Chris did (last I heard, he was a Republican banker!). :)

Dude, wait a few months, man... "You should make the drive up!" ;) Once your baby arrives, Lee, life is changed forever. Make a 2 hr. drive on a week night for an event that starts at 7 pm?! :) Heh. Just wait... ;)

Looking forward to the book, though (and the Katrina anthology, btw).

ha! i'm totally laughing out loud...while my "you should make the drive up" comment was more a gesture at community & friendship, of course i was 1/3 serious, so i can see how funny that would be for a parent. it reminds me of a funny thing i read recently where they list certain "non-parent" statements as opposed to parents of young kids. i'm looking forward to the new world view!

Well, I appreciate the gesture. :)

We should have a little Valley Asian American writers coffeeklatch down here before you're a dad, I'll host at our house. Or we can meet half-way--a Filipino point-point joint in Delano? ;)

Of course, playdates when your kid's older... :)

(Okay, too many smileys. gotta stop.)

Six more months, and I'll be able to take advantage of all the APA resources you Bay Area people keep referring to. Asian American Film Festival? I'm there. Provided I can survive until then...

Sorry for the confusion: My comment about being on a board (of trustees or directors) was for Sarahkim. She knows what I'm talking about.

It's so nice to network with other on-point Asian Americans. Thank goodness for Ji-in, huh?

disl, yes, that sounds great! just let me know when. i've never been to delano, so this would be a good reason.

j gabriel, are you moving out to the bay area? you'll love it. i'm bummed i can't make it to the film festival! i'm actually about 3 hrs away in fresno, which is kind of isolated, and we don't get nearly the amount of great readings that sf/oakland/berkeley does...but we've got a fair amount going on here. the night after uyematsu reads, brian turner is reading at fresno state. it'll be a good week.

and thanks for clearing up that board thing...i wasn't sure if that was for me or not. i read through some of your blog, and i really like it. you have a lot of great things going for you. and yes, i agree 100%---it's great being in touch with other on-point asian-americans.
