Nick Carbo and Eugene Gloria Reading in Fresno

As part of the California State University Summer Arts Program, Nick Carbo, Eugene Gloria, Denise Duhamel, and Martin Espada will be reading in July. For photos and bios, go here. For a calendar of the readings, go here.

Poet Connie Hales is the coordinator of the event, and after Marilyn Chin's reading here in the spring, I have to say that Fresno has had a good year of poetry readings. Continued good fortunes.

I'm always interested in possible new venues for having our Hmong and Lao writers and artists conduct their readings. I'd be very interested in hearing some more about other good venues in Fresno that might be appropriate in the future.

Bryan,

Most of the readings I arrange and host are at City College, which has some nice spaces---there is an art gallery and a small theater which holds around 90 people and has great acoustics. I have also read and hosted readings at Barnes and Noble and a couple of coffee shops, and there are quite a few other places as well. Although it might not be too well known, there are some very cool outdoor places, downtown near the clock tower, for example. The additional challenge, as you might guess, is getting good poets to read on a regular basis. Maybe people who read this blog will get ideas...I think I mentioned this before, but if you happen to be in Fresno and would like to read, I'd be happy to help arrange a reading for you.
