A Biennale in Incheon, wow! That area is really booming, I guess. I went to a film screening for the Asian Am Film Fest in NYC last weekend, and four of the short films in this one program were made by young Korean filmmakers. I was so impressed by their chutzpah, speaking so passionately about their films (English clearly not their first language, but that didn't cow them at all). One woman made a film about Pakistani Americans after 9/11, "because I had never met a South Asian before in my life, and I wanted to learn about them." Perhaps the Hermit Kingdom is coming out of its shell.
Thanks for your comment. I think that in the last ten years, the documentary film has become one of the most fertile genres for provocative (sometimes incendiary) storytelling. Sometimes I think there's not enough time to watch all the films I want to watch. I imagine the NYC film fest was great!
