The talented creative writing students at the University of Texas, El Paso, the good spirit of the students from El Paso Community College, the mountains, Felix, Los Gordos, BorderSenses, Veronica E. Guajardo's poems and singing voice, the blooming poetic voices on the Ghetto Anthem Pantun, the Morning Calm, Jerusalem and Tyranny, Equations and monkeys on the computer, Retablos, King's X, the amazing fish at Frida's in nearby Ciudad Juarez, the dinner and company we shared on Friday night at the house, the view from nearly everywhere, the proximity to Mexico, poet Rosa Alcala, and most importantly--- my dear friends, the gracious, gracious hosts and the ever-talented and spirited Sasha Pimentel Chacón and Daniel Chacón. Oh, and here is a first: during the book signing, a student asked for my autograph on the back of his speeding ticket that he got on the way to the reading.
