You probably don't know this, but I played soccer my whole life---in the front yard growing up as a kid, four years in college, and for several years on a rather competitive club team in a Sacramento league after college. I was decent. But when I began teaching (and aging), I played less. But then I began traveling and I would see games everywhere: in the dirt fields in front of the National Museum of Art in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and one year, while we were backpacking through Southeast Asia, I played in a pick-up game with the locals on the bank of the Mekong River in Vientianne, Laos, which is one of my favorite travel memories.

I've never seen the three Brazilian players (Roberto Carlos, Ronaldinho, and Robhino) in this You Tube video actually playing in a game, but I saw them (and Ronaldo) in the Narita airport the day after they won the 2002 World Cup, which was hosted by South Korea and Japan. My wife and I had just landed in Japan, and I saw the Brazilian National Futbol Team airplane outside. We waited for three hours, and I got to see them all.

Watching them juggle in this short video reminds me of the magic of the sport.
