Photo of Lee by the Extraordinary Joel Pickford

I am incredibly grateful for the time and expertise offered by the extraordinary photographer Joel Pickford, who spent several hours a few weeks ago taking my photograph for my press kit, which I hope to have available on my website soon. Spend some time at Joel's website, and you'll be able to see some of his amazing work, including the recent Hmong exhibit and his breathtaking New Orleans/Creole photographs. He's doing some work in Oaxaca this summer and will have an exhibit at the Fresno Met in the fall. I was honored to have Joel taking my picture, and it was difficult to not think about how non-photogenic I am while he was working--and it was equally difficult to not get distracted by watching him work. He is a kind and generous spirit, and I'm grateful he spent so much time with me.

I also owe a huge debt to my friend Erik Fritz, the webguru behind Ginkgo Leaf Design, who arranged for Joel to take my photos for the press kit. Erik recently revamped Joel's website. Erik also did the websites for the Fresno Poets' Association and the English Council of California Two-Year Colleges. Thank you for arranging it, Erik, and thank you, Joel, for the pictures and for your valuable time. I'll be looking through all the pictures in the coming weeks and choosing a handful to put on my website.

Here is a sample.

Thanks, Sume! I'm glad you're enjoying my book...

it's hard taking pictures, Reb. At least I sat still for this one.

You're VERY photogenic! I still love that calendar photo of you, barefooted and all those lush plants in the background.

Lee, you're too modest. :-) It's a great photo, and I agree with Pris, you're very photogenic!

Just finished the rest of your book. I didn't want to rush. It's beautiful, and I loved every page!

Pris, thank you. I was proud to be part of that calendar/fundraiser!

Ji-in, thanks for the nice comment, and I am so glad you liked the book! I think I may be part of a reading in SF in the fall focusing on KADs in the arts, which would be great.

Thanks for your compliment.

Great pic, Lee.

Be sure to keep using it into your 70's. ;-)

Thanks, Oliver. I think I will, only because it's such a pain getting your picture taken, you know? Hope all's well...

That's a great photo! It's such a pain getting photographed, but yours came out so well. Maybe you can have a side career as poet/model.

best,
Kelli

thank you, rk/rl!

& kelli, thank you, too. it's hard to imagine the side career idea, of course, but it's sure flattering!
