Tan gave a moving talk at Fresno City College on February 12, 2007. After the talk, at an invitation only reception, she signed a picture for my daughter, and we talked about Tan's forthcoming trip to China for research toward a book. It was a day to remember and a great pleasure to meet her.

yes, it was great meeting her. there is so much mystique surrounding her life and work---the acclaim, the crticism, everything else. she was really nice---and i'll tell you, the woman knows how to move through a book signing! there were hundreds of people waiting for her to sign, but we had people from the college activities office sort of usher people along, asking them to have their books open to the page, only one signature per person (no "can you sign these five books, please?")...
