Giants, Mama's, Books

So I went to SBC Park for the first time. It's beautiful. The Giants lost in an inconsequential game, 2-1 to the Arizona Diamondbacks. From the seats behind home plate, we could see out into the Bay. We weren't the only ones on lesiure time; Seantor Dianne Feinstein was also in attendance, of course with seats a bit better than ours. Lee's tally: 1 Lemonade, 1 Garden Burger, 1 Large Garlic Fries, and later, around the 5th inning, 1 bag of peanuts. It was a good day.

We always stay in Chinatown, so of course we had a great dinner. This morning it was breakfast at Mama's in North Beach, the only place I've ever seen people lined up and actually waiting down the block to eat breakfast. Zagat's says it is the best breakfast in San Francisco. Aside from You's Dim Sum, my favorite breakfast place, I can't argue with them. It was delicious.

Before heading home I ducked into the bookstore and picked up some books I'm really looking forward to reading: Civil Disobediences: Poetics and Politics in Action, edited by Anne Waldman and Lisa Birman; North Korea: The Struggle Against American Power, by Tim Beal; The Best American Nonrequired Reading, edited by Dave Eggers with an introduction by Beck; and Gravities of Center, by Barbara Jane Reyes.

Good thing we had to get on the road. I'd have spent another fifty bucks in no time.

Dim Sum...oh, you're torturing me. The last place I lived with a Chinatown was Boston and they had a fantastic Dim Sum restaurant. ahhhh...sitting there while all of those carts came around filled with delish goodies. Yes!!

I was in San Francisco's Chinatown eons ago and wasn't there long enough for a meal. This will age me, but I was passing through on my way to work in Hawaii and APA was that week , so I met a friend and we shared a hotel room where the cable cars turn around. The rooms with a hall shared bath were ten dollars a night and with bath were twelve, so we paid six bucks apiece per night. Now I'll go get the dye bottle for my gray hairs lol.

And books, too. What an ideal time!

I'm getting some grays, too. Those hotel prices remind me of San Salvador circa 2005. It's mind boggling what things cost in the US. I saw a survey last week that said NYC had the highest rent in the country...I think SF was third or fourth. Ah, the cost of culture.

And yes, I recommend You's Dim Sum (on Broadway) to anyone looking for good dim sum.
